Engineering Good

Engineering a Better Tomorrow: Laptops, Inclusion, and a Lasting Change:

A world where technology leaves vulnerable people behind, Engineering Good contrastingly transforms the life of many in singapore by using donated or discarded electronics as tools for disadvantaged groups.

Engineering Good is a non-profit small charity in Singapore focusing on two training programs, focusing on the likes of assistive technology, digital inclusion and sustainability programmes. They work on tech and engineering that provides refurbished and decommissioned laptops and creates affordable assistive devices for disadvantaged groups through training programs, while also aiming to reduce and recycle electronic waste over long periods of time.

Even if this is a non-profitable charity, Engineering Good still assists vulnerable people with their needs, making them confident and more independent. The members are trying to be environmentally friendly and center their charity in a more sustainable way. Engineering Good doesn’t only work on looking for ways to assist disadvantaged groups, but also to empower future innovators and thinkers in the space of Engineering.

Before investing or contributing, Engineering Good’s main field is electronics and engineering. The money they gain from donations will not be used in any other way, as far as I know. On top of that, it is a small charity, hence, reach would not be as strong, and may not help as many people as you mayintend to. Their audience also involves people who would be able to learn or use technology, and does not entirely help people who are not purely technologically literate. However, even though Engineering Good is a small charity and only centers in specific fields, in the end, they still help people do better in life. Contributing to this charity and investing in it can boost the number of people they can eventually support. Your investment not only supports the charity, but possibly also helps someone gain better independence and a better future. It not only helps the vulnerable people, but also innovators in engineering and people who want to help in that specific way. Ultimately, they have also worked with many multinational and established companies.

ALTRUISM LEVEL

7/10

Their charity is non-profitable, focusing mainly on helping disadvantaged groups in Singapore. Moreover, they provide long-term aid to support their audience. They also spend more on their services than what they are given, showing their sincerity, however, they need more donations. They seem fully transparent about their finances by publishing financial data on their website annually.

However a couple of points to consider, is that I have once contacted Engineering Good and spoke with one of their members about whether they would be able to both mentor me for my personal school project. My original pitch was for me to create a website that would help drive donations for the cause. Instead, they had told me that in order for clearance to be given, over a thousand should be raised. I felt that it was slightly inappropriate to ask a single student to raise a specific amount of money for their charity. They also seem to be spending a reasonable sum on labour, lower than what they give for donations..
